Once it is time for the kids to go to bed, I want them to stay. I NEED them to stay. Each time they come out of bed, I lose a little bit of my sanity. And let me tell you, there's not really all that much to begin with.
*
They're learning the tricks now though. Joey especially. This kid has got me pegged. If he comes out and asks for a treat, I'm going to tell him no. If he comes out and asks to go to the bathroom, of course I don't dare to tell him no. If he comes out to tell me Will is being mean to him, I'll tell them both to knock it off and he'll get sent back to bed. If he comes out to tell me he loves me, he'll get a smile and a hug.

I tell you, he's a mommy's boy, and he's got me pegged.

Now my little brilliant mastermind has taken it to a whole new level. He's figured out a million different ways to tell me he loves me, so he can come out and use the same trick more than once. So the night goes like this:
- Mom--I wuv you. I just needed to come out to tell you that.
- Mom, I was just wondering if I can have a hug.
- Oh, I forgot to get a kiss.
- Mom, I wuv you forever.
- Mom, you are going to be invited to my birthday (the ultimate compliment in his book)
- Mom, I wuv you forever and forever and forever!
- Mom, I forgive you!
What??? "I said I forgive you!" Oh, for what? "No I just said I forgive you." Okay, Good Night!
Same thing the next night. Did I do something wrong???? No, he tells me. Okay.
So somehow little Jo Jo has decided that I forgive you is a wonderful term of endearment. I'm quite certain he doesn't know what it means. He just says that to us, and must think he is being so kind and generous with his love.
So tonight Joey came out a million times with the "I love you forever's" "I needed a hug" etc.
Then Joey went back to bed.
"Hey Joey," Brian called back to him, "I forgive you!"
Then Brian and I giggled hysterically to ourselves.

I happened upon your site-- I love your "Why I blog". I need to have my husband read it so he won't give me such a hard time about being "addicted" to my blog! :)
That's sooo funny Wendi! I love it! Joshua does the same thing...except he wants me to tell him that I love him, so he'll say..."Mom in the morning will you make Grandpa's waffles because you love me?" So I say sure...two seconds later..."Nevermind Mom, you can just get me cereal." Okay Joshua...and so it goes on and on and on...
What's sanity?
Tam
that is so cute. It sounds like my girls. I can't get them to stay in bed either. Let me know if you have any great ideas.
My kids(Alexa) come out all the time too. It totally drives me nuts, but, look at it this way, We've been blessed with smart kids to think up all these tricks!
That's true!
Isaac and Gracie do the whole, "I just need a huggy mommy!" thing at least four times a night. By the third dawdle-hug I am annoyed. I'm a bad mom.
Oh, and Wendi, I SO forgive you!!
Cec--I SO forgive you too!
Oh so cute!!!!!!
Sounds like how I feel about the kids waking up. I huff around when Aiden wants to get in my bed but then he'll say, "Mom, I wanna cuddle you," and its all over! Secretly I love it especially since Travis is gone at night and it can be lonely. Also, I start to cringe when I hear Audrey cry in the monitor. Then I go in to check on her and hear that sweet little "mom, hold you" and it makes any grumpiness go away. She gives me a big hug we rock until she says, "my bed."
It is times like these that you wish they wouldnt grow up! He is so sweet!
Awww, how cute & a little more than sneaky!! hee hee
they do have their ways don't they....I am soo sweet, but by the 5th time, I am raising my voice and what not...my husband keeps telling me NOT TO ENGAGE....oh dear... easier said than done
What a cutie! I know what you mean about loosing sanity everytime they come out - it's crazy, which makes me crazy!
Awwww! Even though it's terribly frazzling, it sure is sweet! I like your hubs comeback to Joey--haha.
My kids beadtime is 8pm. I tell thaem after 8 I don't have to be nice! It's my time and if they are up or need something they are on their own! Is that mean? I need my own time you know!
Cute story! :) i know what ya mean about them coming out a million times! Em just turns on lights and runs down the hall. But worse than coming out of bed a million times, is late naps that are SO near bedtime that you just put them to bed, and then they get up about 11:30 and stay up FOREVER!
Life is certianly not without excitment when kids are involved! :)
I love this post! Kids are so stinking smart!
Oh that sounds like my Korbin. I don't know how many times he comes out with "I love you", "I need to kiss you mom", "I forgot to hug you" and the list goes on. And I'm a big sucker for it all.
that mushy stuff will get you every time! :)
Tht got a chuckle out of me. So funny and sweet.
