"Too often we as parents do not teach and encourage our children to live this law because their contribution only amounts to a few cents. But without a testimony of tithing, they are vulnerable. In their teenage years, they become attracted to clothes, entertainment, and expensive possessions and risk losing the special protection that tithing provides." (Robert D. Hales "
Isabel was really excited last month when she got money from the tooth fairy and for her birthday. She asked us for an envelope so she could pay tithing on it to the bishop. At the time, we didn't have any envelopes laying around, so we told her that we'd get one for her later. It's been a couple of weeks now, and it's just slipped my mind.

I came across this quote today, and am taking it as a call for action. I'm going to go swing by the bishop's house or the church and pick up some tithing envelopes. Tonight we'll have our lesson on tithing. We've had lessons about this before, and its always one of their favorites.

Isabel in particular likes it when we get the money out, and she can determine what 10 % is. The fact that Isabel had the desire to pay her tithing shows me that she's understanding and gaining a testimony of this principle on her own. What a sweetheart. She has such a desire to do what is right.

obviously you are doing something right if she wants to tithe on her tooth fairy money!! great job!
Way to go Isabel. I think that is so great that she wanted to pay her tithing.
We had FHE about tithing a few months ago.

What a great FHE! Isabel is a sweetie!
Don't you just love it when your kids "get it" and they are so excited to choose the right! How cute!!
That is so sweet. I'm always so amazed at how deep some kids understanding is.
true, true and triple true!
Brekkon like to figure out what 10% is also. I think it is good for them to learn young the habit of paying tithing.
I love that lesson-and it's a great reminder to me that I need to be better about teaching it to my kids (Sophie actually had a toothfairy experience last night). I should have done it for FHE tonight! Maybe next week.
It has been fun to catch up on your blog! I have been so behind! You all are darling!
I love it when kids get excited about a gospel principle and they seem to just understand it. Your daughter sounds like a sweetie.
Good for Isabel...and good for her parents who obviously are a great example to her.
